Losing It For A Cure!

Marsha Sverdrup

Marsha Sverdrup

I have been struggling to lose weight for a long time. I have tried many different things, but nothing seemed to stick. I always started off motivated, but that would quickly wane. Now, I would like to use my biggest motivational tool yet......my passion to help find a cure for my daughter and the many other people who are affected with FSHD. I am determined to "Lose It For A Cure!".

My 3-month fundraising weight loss journey will begin on March 20th and end on June 20th. June 20th is World FSHD Day, a day recognized worldwide to raise awareness for this disease. The color orange has come to be associated with World FSHD Day, so it seemed quite fitting to ask Orangetheory Fitness to help me through this journey. We will be documenting and updating my progress throughout the 3 months.

Please pledge to my cause by making a donation for every pound I lose (my goal is 30 pounds). A pledge of $1.00 per pound would be a $30 donation. $2 per pound=$60, $3 per pound=$90, $5 per pound=$150), With every dollar raise, the closer to a cure we will be for the many patients and families living with this disorder.

Thank you for your support! - Marsha

About FSHD and the FSH Society:

The money I'm raising is supporting programs and funding research that will directly impact patients and their families living with FSH Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD).

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, or FSHD, is a genetic disorder that leads to the weakening of skeletal muscles. It affects an estimated 1 in 8,000 individuals, or 870,000 people worldwide. Around 20 percent will need a wheelchair by age 50. Over 70 percent experience debilitating pain and fatigue. There is no effective treatment or cure—but there is hope.

The FSH Society is a research-focused patient organization that has catalyzed the global research community. We have funded every major advancement that has propelled us into the era of treatment discovery and development to end the pain, disability and suffering caused by FSH Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD). The FSH Society has transformed the landscape for FSHD research, and is the world’s leading patient advocacy organization committed to making sure that no one faces this disease alone.

Please visit the FSH Society website (fshsociety.org) to learn more about FSHD, ways to get involved, and everything that is happening!

Hi All. I am a little late in posting my weightloss update, but as of last Friday, March 29th, I have lost 6.6 pounds! I know the first few pounds are the easiest and I still have a long way to go, but I keep getting strength and encouragement from everyone around me, especially my daughter who strongly faces her challenges every day. Thank you to all and please share this post and visit my fundraising page at: https://teamfshd.fshsociety.org/losingitforacure
